PRP (Platelet-Rich-Plasma) Treatment
As we get older, the effects of sun-damage and unhealthy lifestyle habits such as smoking begin to take their toll on us all. PRP, or Platelet-Rich-Plasma, is a regenerative medicine technique which utilizes your body’s own growth factors to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars. Patients can achieve younger, healthier-looking skin with minimal pain, downtime or side effects.
PRP treatments can help reduce visible signs of aging on the face, hands, neck, and decolletage. PRP is also the basis for the Vampire Facelift® offered at Fundamentals. As we age, we generally experience a loss of volume and skin integrity that results in common cosmetic complaints, which include the following:
- Crow’s feet
- Lip and frown lines
- Deep depressions around the nose and mouth
- Volume loss in the cheeks
- Sagging around the jawline
- Dehydrated skin
- An overall loss of healthy, youthful skin texture and tone

How PRP Works
Platelets are the key to the body’s ability to stop bleeding and repair damaged blood vessels and cells in the body. Platelets contain tremendous amounts of bioactive proteins, including several types of growth factors. When PRP is placed back into the skin by injection or micro-needling, the growth factors initiate a localized stem cell response.
Over the weeks and months following treatment, this stem cell response recruits collagen-producing cells called fibroblasts. The fibroblasts replace tissue that has been damaged or lost through the aging process with healthy skin that looks refreshed and rejuvenated.
What is a Vampire Facelift®?
A Vampire Facelift uses PRP and fillers to restore shape and improve tone and texture in the face. First, the injector uses a filler to create the desired face shape in a natural way. Next, the PRP will be isolated from your blood in a centrifuge. This activates the PRP and allows them to rejuvenate the skin when it is injected into the face.
The provider injects the growth factors back into the face strategically, activating the stem cells in the face and making them believe that there has been an injury and newer, younger tissue needs to be created. After the PRP is injected, they will administer Altar™ to the patient to enhance the effects of the treatment and supply bloodflow to the new growth provided by the stem cells. After the procedure, patients will have younger looking skin thanks to their own blood.
How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?
Your PRP treatment is done in a simple 3-step process. First, your healthcare professional will perform a blood draw. Afterward, the blood will be placed in a centrifuge and separated while you wait. Finally, the PRP is re-inserted into predetermined problem areas. The whole process can typically be done in less than 1-hour.
How Many Treatments are Needed?
Responses vary, but most patients will require 1-3 sessions spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart. There is no limit to the number of treatments you can have. Your clinician will determine your treatment protocol according to your skin condition. Treatments can be done on all skin types and colors.
What Results Can I Expect?*
A smooth, healthy glow can be seen almost immediately after your exfoliating PRP session. However, optimal results will not be present until several weeks post-treatment. In most patients, the effects from PRP can last upwards of 18-months. Responses vary, but most patients will require 1-3 sessions spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart to achieve an optimal outcome. There is no limit to the number of treatments you can have. Treatments can be done on all skin types and colors. For Vampire Facelifts®, you can expect your results to improve 2-3 months after your treatment and last for 1-2 years following treatment.
Is There Any Downtime?
PRP treatments do require some downtime. Although you’re free to run errands or even return to work, you may experience several days worth of minor peeling, bruising, swelling, and redness. Because of this, many patients opt to have their treatment done on a Thursday/Friday and take the weekend to recover. Massaging the treated area should also be avoided for up to 48-hours.
