What Treatment Safely & Effectively Reduces Sun Damage and Age Spots?

Sun exposure is responsible for most of our visible aging. Over time, UV rays dry out our skin and kill healthy cells. If you’re like many men and women, you’re probably regretting those youthful days of fun-in-the-sun sans sunscreen. Happily, there is a way to reduce and even reverse visible signs of aging safely and effectively.

At Fundamentals Med Spa, we offer minimally-invasive Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments to treat mild to moderate sun-damaged skin. Take a look at a few things we love about IPL below.

It’s Safe

IPL treatments use a broad-spectrum of light wavelengths as opposed to a single focused beam. The light energy is able to penetrate the deeper layers of skin while leaving the topmost layers of skin completely unharmed.

It’s Effective

Intense Pulsed Light specifically targets and ruptures dark pigmentation (melanin) within the skin. After the thermal damage kills pigmented cells, they’re naturally expelled from the body over time. The results is smooth, blemish-free skin.

It’s Versatile

Whether you’d like to reduce the appearance of sun-damaged skin, age spots, acne scars, or wrinkles, IPL can help. Treatments can be customized to help you improve overall complexion by addressing your individual concerns. Intense Pulsed Light therapy is safe and effective throughout the face and body.

Quick, Easy Appointments

IPL is done in a short, in-office appointment. Treatment times can vary based on the size of the area being treated and your aesthetic goals but should never be longer than 20-30 minutes. In most cases, you can expect to be in and out of the office within the hour.

Zero Downtime

You are free to go about your regular activities immediately following your IPL treatment. You may experience some minor redness, swelling, or tenderness for several hours to several days. Broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+) is encouraged throughout the healing process and continued post-treatment for optimal results.

Long-Lasting Results

After existing pigmented lesions fade, that pigment is unable to come back. However, sun exposure can produce new damage or age spots. You can prolong the outcome of your procedure by wearing protective clothing and sunscreen on a regular basis.
